Brick Buildings Book

We have just released another new LEGO brick book, Brick Buildings! Kevin has been busy over 2017 creating new and exciting models for a series of books. This book features 40 models of buildings including castles, shacks, cabins and fantasy dwellings. As with our previous book, our team took their inspiration from the LEGO CLASSIC series of sets. Each of these sets provides exactly what those visitors we meet at public events ask about: a big box of LEGO bricks. Of course, not every brick is a standard 2 x 4 brick, or 2 x 2 plate, or 1 x 3 slope, but everyone should recognise the collection of LEGO pieces.

On the whole, the models have been created using the basic parts that you will find in the CLASSIC boxes, which of course aren’t just classic 2 x 4 bricks, but include slopes, plates, tiles, and even tiny, colourful 1 x 1 tiles. However, to create some of the finer details of these micro buildings, I have used parts from other LEGO sets such as Friends and Creator. We find that 1 x 1 headlight bricks (also known as Erling Bricks, named after their inventor, the LEGO designer Erling Dideriksen) are very versatile. You’ll see them crop up as tiny windows or for connecting parts to the sides of walls. Even animal horns appear in interesting places—such as at the end of shoelaces on the Shoe House.

When we are building our models, we always love the challenge of creating a model using the parts we have at hand. So, don’t worry if you haven’t got the exact pieces we list. Just like any LEGO builder, you can be creative and re-create the models in this book to suit the parts you have in your own collection. Remember, there is no right or wrong way of building with LEGO, as long as you have fun creating the models. That is the most important thing.
